Miller Light

I'm stoked about the new series Donald Miller will be blogging in weeks to come. I presume I will be inspired to come here and post plenty of my thoughts and ask for yours. For instance- how illuminating is this quote from Miller's post today?

"Psychologists have found awareness is more powerful than resistance..."

Awareness more powerful than resistance!? I didn't realize just how much i  my life  my experiences  (can't find the right word) agreed with that very statement. Seeing it articulated validated my (insert correct word)...Let me try to explain....Though I have never attempted a "diet", I've observed this to be the very reason people have such trouble with them. Instead of being more aware of what they are doing to their bodies, they just try to resist eating certain things.

Okay, so that's the most basic example I could come up with, but seriously- think about it. The more aware you are of a thing, the more ascendancy you have over it. I know that this is all beside his point, but it still legitimized a mighty big life-observation (is that the right word?) I've made. Awareness is one of the most unparalleled traits. I'm even willing to bet that the people you enjoy being around most are the people who are most aware.

In light of Miller's new series, I plan to to be more aware of the 'manipulative messages' of commercialism. I hope you'll do the same and that you will read his posts concerning the topic.... and then come back here and talk to me about it. I like your thoughts.

Oooh I love that thought - the people you enjoy being around the most are the most aware.

There is someone in my life who I love but who is completely unaware (of certain things), and that one aspect of him makes all the other good things harder to swallow.

And when I look back at how I've behaved in a certain situation and am embarrassed at myself, it's usually because I've been completely unaware.

I'm not sure if this is what you even intended to say, but it makes total sense to me. :)

Totally! All of my "most embarrassing moments" are me being unaware.

It's crazy what a powerful thing being aware is. When you're aware of whats going on in a room, you can balance out any tension that is in the room, even if it's not yours. It's mind-blowing.
