Part II of Previous Post

Let me unpack this paragraph:
"When people visit, I am reminded that we don't eat like typical American families... we don't always have an entree and 2 sides for dinner... we eat a lot (meaning numerous times)... my siblings make fun of my cereal choices... we don't use milk... and I'm sure there are other quarks you'll discover if you come visit..."

We eat our "sides" when we're hungry. For lunch and dinner. Basically, if I bring a full lunch to work, I eat part at 10, part at 12 and another part at 2/3... then when we get home we typically graze...

We don't use milk because I think the concept of milk is disgusting. We are the only species to drink milk after infancy and we don't drink our own- we drink another species?! GROSS! We are all meant to be lactose-intolerant. We use Almond Milk... we used to drink soy milk until we realized it had estrogen in it... husband was highly opposed to soy after that discovery.
People always respond "but milk is good for your bones and calcium!?" This is a huge lie from the USDA.

Broccoli, cultivar unknownImage via Wikipedia

Milk is NOT a good source of calcium. The calcium molecules in milk are 2-3 times the size of the calcium receptors in your body. This means, that your body gets exhausted trying to retain any kind of calcium from milk... and we wonder why we're so tired all the time... by the time your body is done trying to digest milk, it has retained barely any calcium at all. A better source of calcium? Broccoli. The calcium molecules in broccoli are smaller than your calcium receptors allowing maximum absorption.

okay. I think that helped shed light on what I meant.

Hi bud! So it's interesting to hear all this, and gave me some good ideas for stuff we can do... but I've gotta question you on the milk thing.

I think if you don't want to drink milk, you're most definitely allowed to not drink milk, but when you said we were all meant to be lactose intolerant, that made me think. Why did that comment bother me? And here's why I think it did: I don't think that statement stands up to what the Bible says.

Let's take a look at a few verses:

Prov 27:27: You will have plenty of goats' milk to feed you and your family and to nourish your servant girls.

1 Cor 9:7: Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its grapes? Who tends a flock and does not drink of the milk?

Isa 55:1: Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.

But - If you meant we're not "meant" to be lactose intolerant as a flippant "I just don't like it" comment, then ignore all this. :) Because you have a right to eat or not eat what you want, and I think it's admirable and awesome that you're healthy!

We're both excited about tonight :)
